Poker is a card game in which players try to improve their hand by betting. It is played in hundreds of variations and can be a competitive or a leisurely activity.<\/p>\n
A poker tournament is a series of games in which each player competes until there is just one remaining player. A tournament bracket typically contains a minimum of four games, but it can be much larger.<\/p>\n
The rules of poker are relatively simple, but there is considerable strategy involved. In particular, a successful strategy depends on the ability to predict other players’ actions and to bluff them.<\/p>\n
Before every hand, two players at the table are obligated to post small and big blinds. These forced bets help to ensure that there will be a level of action on every hand and prevent the game from becoming very boring.<\/p>\n
When the blinds are paid, the dealer (who is a designated player and moves clockwise among the players) deals two cards to each player. The player to the left of the small blind is the first to act in this and every succeeding round by folding, checking, or raising.<\/p>\n
After the first round, each player bets into a central pot. After each round, the winning player collects the pot and may be required to reveal his or her hand in order to win.
