Poker is a card game in which the players place bets, called raises and calls, on a hand of cards. The highest hand is a Royal flush, consisting of four matching cards of the same rank and five consecutive cards of the same suit. The next highest hand is a straight, which consists of five consecutive cards of the same rank. A three of a kind is the third highest hand, and two pairs are the lowest hand.<\/p>\n
A dealer is responsible for shuffling the deck and dealing each player a set number of cards. Typically the dealer is a player, but non-players may be designated as dealers in some cases. A chip is passed around the table that indicates who is the dealer for a given round. Depending on the rules of the variant of Poker being played, there may be one or more betting rounds during which all players participate. During these rounds, players place their bets into a central pot, which is collected when all bets are made.<\/p>\n
When the final betting rounds of a poker round are completed, the remaining players reveal their hands. Each player must either call or fold his or her hand in order to continue participating in the round. In addition to the initial forced bets, some players may voluntarily place additional chips into the pot during this time, usually for strategic reasons.
